Description
The Republic of Tatarstan Higher Education Fellowship Program (THEF Program) is designed to support undergraduate and graduate study in the United States in fields of importance to the Government of the Republic of Tatarstan. Scholarship recipients (fellows) study at the undergraduate or graduate level in the United States for a period of one semester or one academic year, thereby increasing their knowledge in areas that support economic growth and development in Tatarstan. The THEF Program is administered in the United States by American Councils for International Education: ACTR/ACCELS.
The agreement also calls for a broad range of exchange initiatives including the publication and dissemination of academic materials, joint research projects and the joint organization of scholarly conferences, roundtables, etc.
Origins
On March 21, 2007 American Councils and the government of the Republic of Tatarstan concluded a multi-year agreement on the exchange of undergraduate and graduate students, teachers and professionals between the U.S. and Tatarstan. The agreement was signed in Kazan, at the conclusion of an international conference entitled "World Languages and the Perspectives for their Spread in Tartarstan Today" at which Dan Davidson presented a plenary paper.
